"The transforming role of nature is the subject of my landscape paintings. The idea of ongoing uplift, erosion and deposition of the earth's crust over millions of years is a recurring theme." Michael Sproule
"His is not the expression of particular detail observed, but that of greater forces seething below the surface which shape the land... the push and pull of molten rock merges into the push and pull of space, form and colour."
Anna Babinska, Curator

"The Lure of the Badlands" is a series of paintings based on the landforms and topography of the badlands of Alberta, North and South Dakota, and Saskatchewan. These paintings have been inspired by annual western visits over five years, and by a term as artist-in-residence at the Wallace Stegner House in Eastend Saskatchewan.
"The Lure of the Badlands" opened in Ottawa at the Canadian Museum of Nature in November 2001. A western tour began in August 2006 with exhibitions in Medicine Hat, Red Deer and Lethbridge Alberta.
Other projects in progress include work in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Scablands of eastern Washington, and sites of glacial activity in Saskatchewan and Quebec.
