Biography of Ruby Ewen

RUBY EWEN

Ruby Ewen maintains a studio in West Quebec near Ottawa-Gatineau. At an early age Ewen was exposed to the works of Canadian artists and was moved to begin painting. She is a self-taught painter with a degree in Art History from Carleton University.

As well as working through the seasons in areas around her studio, Ruby also effects painting trips to other parts of Canada. Her brush has caught regions in Eastern Canada, the Prairie provinces, coastal B.C. and the Rocky Mountains.

Ruby Ewen's work is inspired by nature and the landscape. Her emotional response to a subject dictates the manner in which a piece is painted, resulting in a large body of work that explores different subjects in different ways, opening new doors for further creative expression.

Recently Ruby's painting has taken a more abstract and non-objective means of expression, working with brushstrokes and colour to capture the dynamism felt in her surroundings.
