REBECCA MASON
Galerie McKenzie Marcotte in Wakefield Quebec is pleased to present The Stillness of Perception, an exhibition of new work by Chelsea Quebec artist Rebecca Mason. The show opens with a vernissage on Friday September 7 at 7 pm and continues until October 9, 2007.
In “The Stillness of Perception”, Rebecca once again gives form to a yearning for the tranquillity of the natural world. In a world of frantic life styles and increasing urbanization, Rebecca takes the time to seek out the tranquil, remote places that can be reached by canoe. She uses the simple materials of watercolour on rice paper to record both the conscious and unconscious results of spending time in these peaceful places; the increased awareness of the subtleties of colour and form as water moves over rock, an appreciation for the timelessness of the experience of being in the wilderness, a realization of the preciousness and the fragility of the natural world. Through her painting, she reminds us that such peacefulness exists and that it is obtainable if we take the time to find it.
As well as using her artwork to express her passion for canoeing and for the environment, Rebecca is also well known as a film maker, writer, speaker and environmental activist. She has contributed to many publications including, the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society’s book Rendezvous with the Wild, The Boreal Forest in which two of her paintings are profiled.
