The Tradition Continues
Galerie McKenzie Marcotte once again celebrates the Christmas season with an exhibition of icons by Christine Granger, an internationally acclaimed iconographer and artist. Her exhibition entitled Noel begins with a vernissage on Friday November 23 at 7 pm and continues until January 14, 2008.
Christmas is one of the greatest of feasts in the Christian tradition and Christine Granger's paintings celebrate the birth of Christ as well as the loving connection between mother and child.
Christine writes:
"My paintings are variations and meditations on the Nativity. This happy feast brings us the 'Good News' of God's love. We are filled with joy and peace and hope for us all."
Christine Granger's icons can be found in many private and public collections, including the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The icon tradition is an ancient one going back to the beginnings of Christianity. Christine does not copy ancient icons, but rather creates original works in the spirit of the icon tradition. There are rather rigid rules pertaining to every aspect of the painting process. Nevertheless, artists like Christine Granger working in this tradition today bring new insights to their work making it a living art relevant to our time.
